Miko’s story starts in 1801, when Leonardus Michielsen set up a coffee roasting business in Belgium. More than two hundred years on, Miko is a family-owned company.
Jan Michielsen started a coffee roasting business in 1908. The MIKO name came in 1937, when the company expanded to the edge of Turnhout, about 40 km from Antwerp.
In 1972 Miko shifted towards customers outside the home: catering and offices. In 2005 it launched Puro, its Fairtrade coffee brand.
Miko says it created Asia Espresso 08 to suit coffee drinkers in Malaysia. It also says it packs and ships its beans soon after roasting, to protect the flavour.
