Coffee Star launches office coffee subscription as homegrown rival to multinationals
Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong took the first cup as the Shah Alam company launched a fully managed Auto-Barista service: one monthly subscription, no machine to buy.

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 September 2026 — Coffee Star launched a subscription office coffee service on Thursday (24 September), pitching it as a homegrown Malaysian option in a segment the company says multinational brands have long held. Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) Steven Sim Chee Keong officiated the launch at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 and took the first cup.
The fully managed service, branded Office Coffee Service (OCS), puts a bean-to-cup Auto-Barista in the client’s pantry on a monthly subscription rather than an outright purchase. The company is targeting corporate offices, government buildings and industrial complexes.
Coffee Star installs the Auto-Barista in the pantry, then refills, cleans and maintains it for one monthly fee; the office never buys the machine. Pantry supplies and water filtration can be bundled, and the coffee served is Halal-recognised.
“Malaysia’s office coffee market has long been dominated by multinational brands from Switzerland and Japan,” Raja Ahmad Fauzan, founder and chief executive, said in a statement. “We believe it is time for a local brand to step forward, not out of sentiment but because we offer barista quality, genuine Fairtrade practice and smarter technology.”
The beans are Fairtrade Puro coffee, roasted in Belgium by Miko, a roaster established in 1801. Machines are monitored remotely through STARGATE™, Coffee Star’s cloud monitoring and alert system.
Coffee Star was named National Winner, SME ESG Challenge 2025/2026 (SME Corp Malaysia × UN Global Compact Network Malaysia, Brunei & Cambodia) for Bean2Blossom. The programme turns used coffee grounds collected from the machines into compost. The company sums up its approach as “good coffee for the office, fair for the farmer, and good for the earth”.
Sim pressed the button on an Auto-Barista at the KUSKOP Pavilion before media and visitors. With him were KUSKOP Secretary-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud and Dato’ Indera Abu Bakar Yusof, chief executive of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). SME Bank chief executive Samad Majid Zain also attended.
Coffee Star is a brand of Belcoff Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, based in Shah Alam, Selangor. The brand, founded in 2020, says it runs Auto-Barista machines at more than 114 locations across Malaysia and plans to extend the service to what it calls high-impact locations.
MIHAS 2026, the showcase’s 22nd edition, runs until Saturday (26 September) at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). MATRADE, the organiser, expects about 50,000 visitors from 45 countries and some 1,700 companies across 2,000 booths. The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) hosts the event.
Coffee Star is running tastings and live Auto-Barista demonstrations at Booth #06 in the KUSKOP Pavilion for visitors and prospective corporate partners until the showcase closes.
“Coffee Star OCS is proof that a homegrown Malaysian coffee company can compete at the same level as global brands, and even move ahead of them,” Raja Ahmad Fauzan said.
